By any criterion ours is an esteemed school, underlined by a nurturing ethos that offers each learner a complete and fulfilling education with a wide spectrum of choices and options. Students are thus provided with opportunities to excel – leading to higher self-esteem and all-round achievement. 

Our educational philosophy embraces the concept of balance: between the mind and the body; between the temporal and the spiritual; between discipline and freedom; between tradition and innovation; between a sense of self and personal values and tolerance – and even in climate!

Our students emerge from St Mary’s with a sense of perspective and solid foundations, capable of contributing constructively to the society in which they will ultimately play a part.

The curriculum not only comprises knowledge but, perhaps even more importantly, values. We strive to help each girl to gain in confidence whilst gaining in skills and to develop as a person whilst developing academically, physically, culturally and spiritually. 

The school is well known for the innovative part it has played in education in South Africa, pioneering a number of unique programmes and activities. St Mary’s parents have been enthusiastically involved in some of these projects and play an active role in the life and progress of the school.

Message from the Headmaster of the Primary School

Whilst it is an integral part of the complete St Mary's 'package', St Mary's Primary School prides itself on the autonomous identity it enjoys and the manner in which it prepares young girls for life. 

We offer first and foremost, a caring and nurturing environment, coupled with a rigorous and vibrant curriculum and rich extra-curricular programme, all of which help cement the cornerstones of a sound elementary education.

Our girls enjoy the many benefits of an exclusively girls' education, where cameraderie, competition and cooperation play equal roles. Our school is generally a quiet and industrious place, yet laughter, fun and enjoyment are equally at home here, as the girls embrace, with gusto, every opportunity afforded them through our carefully structured learning programmes.
