Although
St Mary's is an Anglican school, learners of other faiths are welcomed and
their convictions respected. Chapel attendance remains
compulsory, with the High School meeting for worship on Mondays,
Wednesdays and Thursdays, Senior Primary on Tuesdays and Junior
Primary on Friday mornings. Services are held in the
Amphitheatre on Thursday mornings for the High School, allowing
different groups and all classes to lead a service of worship in
a more informal manner.

Religious Education is taught throughout the school, the emphasis being
placed on Biblical truths and their relation to social and moral issues of
the day. Two active Student Christian Association
groups, Bible study and prayer groups meet weekly. Christian camps, rallies,
unity meetings, outreaches and a week long
Christian Arts Festival are also held
every year.

The
Chapel plays a central role in the life of the school.
The Chaplain, assisted by staff and clergy of other
denominations, help to prepare the Grade 10 girls for
confirmation
between March and September of each year. The course
includes two compulsory camps,
one held at school and the other in the Natal Midlands.
Ten important lessons are held between the two camps,
including topics such as prayer, liturgy, worship,
sharing faith etc. Learners who are interested in
exploring their faith without desiring to be confirmed
are encouraged to complete the course.
Post-confirmation prayer meetings are held to ensure
that the girls are spiritually nurtured and continue to
grow in their faith.
Arrangements are made for boarders to attend Friday
evening fellowship groups and Sunday services.
The Sacristans and SCA Committee spend a weekend camp
at the beginning of each year to prepare for the coming year. Outreach
programs are organised throughout the year. At the end of
the year an annual Carol Service is held to
which parents are invited.
Fulfilling the words of our school motto, all learners are encouraged to
serve our Lord using their God-given talents and to seek His direction in
all aspects of their lives. |
