In the Primary School a charity per grade / phase is selected for the whole year. The focus is on the girls getting to know about and have some interaction with their beneficiaries. It is important that girls raise money / items themselves by doing chores or using their pocket money.
Junior Primary
The Brown’s School
The Junior Primary Girls continue to raise money for The Brown’s School. They use the money to buy much needed equipment. |
| Grade 4: Thokomala Children’s Home, kwaNyuswa |
| The girls bring clothing, non-perishable food and donations for Baker Day. The money collected throughout the year will be used to buy items that the orphanage request. |

Grade 5: Zimbabwe Pensioners’ Support Fund |
This year we are involved with The
Zimbabwe Pensioners’ Support Fund, which focuses on supplying food and medical supplies to approximately 800 needy pensioners in old age homes in Zimbabwe. This initiative was started by Daniel and Elza Koekemoer, who live in close proximity to the school.
The deliveries are made monthly and parcels are personally delivered to their doorsteps, under trying circumstances and often long delays at the border.
Our Grade 5 girls and their families have opened their hearts and pockets to support this worthwhile cause and the girls themselves have been very involved in assisting with the packing of parcels this term.
They have also corresponded with the pensioners and we hope to hear from them soon. |
Grade 6
Langelihle Pre-School
The Grade 6 girls are involved with a pre-school in Hammarsdale called Langelihle School. The school is supported by the Phakamisa Organisation which operates under the auspices of the Pinetown Methodist Church. After visiting the school, a list of needs has been recognized and prioritized. Various structural issues need to be addressed first, namely a fence, toilet and awning for shade. Appeals have gone out to the grade 6 parents for any assistance they may be able to give in these areas. Fund-raising includes: Baker Days every Friday, a jumble sale later on in the year, etc. Girls are busy collecting various items for the school like stationery, puzzles, books, etc. Girls will be put into task teams during various CC days and will make educational posters, blankets, play dough, etc for the school. Working teams (consisting of the girls and their parents) will go to Langelihle and address needs like painting murals on the outside wall of the school, etc.. The aim is for each of our girls to visit the school at least once this year.

| Grade 7:
St Mary’s Hospital |
The St Mary's DSG, Kloof Grade 7
girls have worked long and hard this year to raise a fantastic
amount of money to give to their chosen charity which is St
Mary's hospital. PRO for St Mary's hospital Mrs Jade Wood said
"that the staff and children of the hospital were truly touched
by the generosity of the girls and the effort that they put into
raising so much money, especially in this economic climate". She
said that the money would go towards purchasing a very necessary
piece of equipment for the hospital and invited the girls to
come through any time to visit the children and also to see the
equipment that they will buy. The Grade 7's have elected to once
again support St Mary's hospital next year and challenged the
upcoming
Grade 6's to match or beat the amount of money that they raised
this year. The girls were very creative in their fundraising
efforts and held the following:
- A marathon bike swim (where they raised money
to buy toy bikes for the children)
- Puzzle collection
- Fruit day
- Grade 7 Games Galaxy Day (charged the other
pupils to play fun games to raise funds)
- Ran the Christmas tea garden on market day to
raise funds
